Winter layering for toddlers without overheating
By Maya Fernandes · 2026-02-26 · 5 min read
Layer one wicks, layer two insulates, layer three blocks wind. A cotton bodysuit, a fleece sweater and a shell jacket cover most winter days.
Check the back of the neck, not hands or feet, to judge temperature. Cool extremities are normal; a damp neck means one layer too many.
In a car seat, remove the outer jacket — bulky coats stop harness straps from tightening safely.
